Description

6 bands - 13 songs - MP3 (LAME encoder, alt-preset-standard (vbr 2), joint stereo)

A great track is #10 - The Breakmen - Gonna Buy Me a Ticket. If you're only going to sample one song give that one a try. (It's more toe-tapping country than bluegrass or old-timey, but what the hay...) I checked out the website on the album cover [ www.whiskeyhollowbound.com ] and saw that the whole album is actually there as streaming audio - available for your, uhhhh, 'test-drive' ;)

This CD was the brainchild of Steve Charles who brought together 6 of the best bands from Vancouver, Canada including his own. The bands performed at the ANZA Club on December 17, 2006 to raise the funds for studio recording and such. The release of this studio CD was commemorated with a second live performance on June 17, 2007 at the St. James Hall. I was at the June concert and it was damn good. The Breakmen especially are really polished as a live band, both visually and acoustically.

Here are two short video segments (9 minutes and 1 minute) from the two live concerts, produced by Maia Iotzova for ACCESS TV in Vancouver. The 1-minute clip is funny:

The Breakmen will be performing several times in B.C. from July to September 2007. I believe the band Plough is at the Vancouver Folk Fest this year. And it looks like Dyad are on a mission: In Winnipeg on July 5, in Vancouver on July 19, in Calgary on July 26, in St.Johns on August 3, in Halifax on August 7, and in Lunenburg on August 9.

If you like what you hear, consider supporting your favorite musicians. They have dedicated a big part of their lives to honing their craft and with a little support from the file-sharing community, who knows how good they can become. An album sale here or there and a concert ticket will go a long way to helping these up-and-coming bands. Thanks.
