"Pressure" is a BFI production depicting a Black Power milieu in London in the mid-70s (though to take in the included director interview, perhaps the situation portrayed was inspired much earlier) as seen through the eyes of Trinidadian director Horace Ové. It is a pretty low budget effort, with apparently a healthy amount of improvisation. For meatier subject matter, turn to "Baldwin's Nigger", a presentation of a speech by James Baldwin for a West Indian audience in London, from the middle of the Vietnam era. Baldwin is full of venom for the actions America was responsible for in the day. I can't say he was always on track, but he covers a lot of points, some of which need the wit of Dick Gregory to put into perspective, especially when asked what a white liberal can do for the black movement. For anyone wondering where to explore the contrasts in black experience from opposite sides of the Atlantic, but excluding Africa, this might be a starting point. Fish out of water!
