With their debut album, GOD FODDER, lost in the post-NEVERMIND grunge explosion, Ned's Atomic Dustbin were at somethingof a crossroads. The GOD FODDER tour had keep the band on the road for much of 1991, and much of the material for theirsophomore effort was written on the road.

ARE YOU NORMAL? features two marked differences from the previous album. First, in an effort to break the band in the US, Sony Music hooked them up with producer Andy Wallace (who had mixed the aforementioned Nirvana record). Second, perhaps in response to their grueling tour schedule, the new songs were somewhatless frenetic than the earlier ones, mostly exploring egos and relationships. Standouts include "Not Sleeping Around", which plays a frantic, slithering guitar off dual bass lines; "A Leg End in His Own Boots" (occasionally miswritten as "Legend", which is, of course, the joke), a vicious put down set to a curiously smooth, looping guitar line and a rollingbeat; and "Fracture", a laid-back instrumental unlike anything else in the band's catalogue.
