Magadheera (English Translation: Great Warrior) is a 2009 Telugu historical action- romance film directed by S S Rajamouli and produced by Allu Aravind. The film stars Ram Charan Teja and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles, while actors Srihari and Dev Gill play other prominent roles. The film features an original soundtrack by M. M. Keeravani, art direction by R. Ravindar, cinematography by K. K. Senthil Kumar and editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao. The film was released to critical and commercial acclaim. The film was dubbed and released in Malayalam as Dheera— The Warrior[3] and in Tamil as Maaveeran.[4] Magadheera collected a worldwide share of INR58 crore (US$9.6 million) making it the highest grossing Telugu movie of all time.[2] The movie broke all the existing Telugu Box Office records at the time and beat the current all time record holder Pokiri, starring Mahesh Babu which collected 42 crores share. Magadheera collected 58 crores share, according to Allu Sirish, son of Allu Aravind, the producer of Magadheera creating the 50 crore share Tollywood club. The record of Magadheera stood for 2 1/2 years until Mahesh Babu's Dookudu released. Dookudu broke all records at the time and became the highest grossing and highest share collecting telugu movie at the time of its release in September 2011 in India, Overseas, Worldwide and became the first telugu film to collect 1 Million Dollars in USA, raking in approximately 1.6 million from rentrak screens and another 300k from unreported screens which is about 1.9 million, taking the total to $1.9 million in US, a record that stood till the release of Pawan Kalyan's Attarintiki Daredi, the next telugu industry hit after Dookudu. Dookudu, made on a budget of 35 crores, collected 101 crores gross worldwide and a lifetime share of 66.16 crores, crossing Magadheera by 8.16 crores share and approximately 20 crores gross to become the all time industry record. Dookudu created the Tollywood 60 crore share club, while Attarintiki Daredi raking in 74.88 crore worldwide share, created the Tollywood 70 crore share club. Magadheera is being remade in Bengali as Yoddha - The Warrior.[5] The Hindi remake of the movie is planned to star Shahid Kapoor. The name of the Hindi remake is yet to be decided.
