Reagują oni między innymi na dobiegające z otoczenia dźwięki, odpowiednio koordynując swoje czynności, tak aby wytropić postać gracza.
Oprawa wizualna The Hunt prezentuje wysoki poziom wykonania, a to dlatego, iż na potrzeby gry opracowano zupełnie nowy silnik graficzny. Zapewnia on między innymi realistycznie wykonane cienie. Gra ponadto oferuje obsługę akceleratorów fizyki AGEIA PhysX. Oprócz klasycznej kampanii dla pojedynczego gracza zawarto też pełnoprawny multiplayer, oferujący takie tryby jak Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, czy Survival.
