A West German anthology on being young in the German Democratic Republic, or DDR, the parastate in Eastern Germany set up by the Soviet occupation forces between 1945 and 1990. What did the private life of youth in the DDR look like beyond the socialist/communist propaganda picture? Where did young people go to meet friends and what went on beyond the organized life of military service and communist youth organizations? This book is an interesting anthology from the early 1980's about what it was to be young in communist East Germany. An point to remember is that the young East Germans presented here were the same ones who toppled the Berlin Wall in 1989, just six years later.
