The VideoLAN project targets multimedia streaming of MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and DivX files, DVDs, digital satellite channels, digital terrestial television stations and live videos on the high-bandwidth IPv4 or IPv6 network in unicast or multicast under many OSes. VideoLAN also includes a mix-platform multimedia player, VLC, that you can use to see the stream in the network or display video read in your area on the pc under all GNU/Linux flavours, all BSD flavours, Home windows, Mac OS X, BeOS, Solaris, QNX, Familiar Linux. VideoLAN is free of charge software, and it is launched underneath the GNU Public License. It began like a student project in the French A‰cole Centrale Paris but has become an international project with designers from 20 nations.
