This is the book the huge music collections showing up recently here at KAT are based on.
The editor and contributors to the book have set out to select a major representation of album based music that has arrived since recorded music for the masses. The first edition of this (there have been several revisions) covers those available from the 1950s (when vinyl replaced shellac) to the mid 2000s (when CD was king and only the artistic few appeared on vinyl). The market has changed since then, becoming etherealistic with most consumption becoming downloads to personal players. The concept of the album, though, remains.

Read the Preface and Intro first, to understand the aim of this book. It is not setting out to suggest you should like everything here, or even that these are the best of the best. But it is music you should experience at least once, even if you do not like, or even approve of it.

This is a scan of the original book, and is why the file size is relatively large. Each "page" is a spread of two actual pages of the book, and it is not digitally indexed or OCR'd in any way (so when you use the books' internal index, you need to divide by 2).
This is also most likely the same version as appears on the 'bay.
