Description An undercover FBI agent Sascha Petrosevitch takes bullets for his buddy Nick Frazier. Nick figures Sascha for dead until the two are reunited again on duty at New Alcatraz. At New Alcatraz criminal mastermind Lester is set to be executed. Lester knows the whereabouts of a fortune in gold but isnt talking. With only hours to live Lester takes a meeting with Sascha just as corrupt prison official Donny and his gang raid New Alcatraz by helicopter and take Lester and a Supreme Court justice hostage. Half Past Dead Review Aikido action star Steven Seagal returns to the fray in 'Half Past Dead' where he plays undercover FBI agent Sascha Petrosevich who, after a failing to apprehend the bad guy, almost dies in the shootout which follows. In order his cover be maintained, Sascha is sent to a high-tech prison on the infamous Alcatraz Island where, unbeknownst to him, a group of mercenaries plan to seize control of the facility and find out where a death row inmate has hidden $200 million worth of gold. When hostages are taken, Sascha, along with his fellow detainees, must attempt to stop the mercenaries by any means necessary, but will they succeed? In many ways 'Half Past Dead' is a pale imitation of 'The Rock' with Steven Seagal playing the usual one-man-army role familiar from his 'Under Siege' performance. Unfortunately when compared to those two movies, 'Half Past Dead' will fail to excite even the most die-hard gung-ho action fan as dialogue and performances are clichéd, the action sequences are unimaginative and the conclusion is ludicrous. Overall, 'Half Past Dead' shows none of the vibrancy seen in Seagal's earlier work, with the man himself looking a tad overweight to be fighting, and after a while the constant close-up fast-paced editing style of the movie becomes tedious and irritating. This then is a film with few redeeming features.
