The picture that has come down over the past 100 years is that Britain in 1913 was enjoying the last days of the Edwardian summer, to be forever destroyed on the western front. In this series, ex MP (and Cambridge History graduate) Michael Portillo looks at some of the well known (e,g. Ireland) and less well known problems facing Britain in 1913, and questions whether our beliefs are correct.

As always, Portillo is a clear-minded and interesting speaker, who looks at these issues with the help of history experts, but leaves the listener to decide.
