Description

Edward Boatner Junior aka Sonny Stitt (1924-1982)

Unrepentant bebopper Sonny Stitt spent most of his life being compared unfavorably to BIRD. This 1990 remaster of a 1958 Chicago session begs to differ.

The accompanying rhythm section is unknown/undocumented. Stitt was equally adept at both alto and tenor as demonstrated by his energetic blowing on these tracks.

Sonny Stitt was arguably over-recorded but this one here is an early gem!


Track #2 and #7 are my picks but #1 is close behind


No audible flaws in this remaster that I've noticed.


WARNING! The .cue "loader" is DEFECTIVE! It won't destroy anything but it will load the first track twice and bump track #9 into oblivion. So load these either singly or from your media player's context menu...............Dt
