Robert Roland Chudnik aka Red Rodney (1927-1994) first came to my attention in the excellent 1988 feature film: BIRD

Rodney toured with BIRD in 1949 under the name Albino Red as depicted in the film. His drug use greatly complicated his life; at one point having his teeth damaged in a police altercation. Being musical with a trumpet is difficult enough with undamaged teeth.

Rodney left jazz in 1958 and his life proceeded through a course of tragedy and difficulty.

From 1980 to 1982, Rodney made 5 highly regarded albums with multi-instrumentalist Ira Sullivan. This upload is one of those albums.
