The music is "hard" electro-based hip-hop, great for breakdancing to.

"Request Line" is made to sound like people are calling in to a radio station and asking to hear something by each rapper in the crew. Clever!

Both songs were big hits, but the call-and-response club anthem "The Roof is on Fire" couldn't be played on the radio because of its explicit lyrics.

"Hey, DJ, pick up the phone, I'm on the request line!"
"We don't need no water, let the motherfucker burn! Burn, motherfucker, burn!"
