One possibility: install the registry hack found here:

It's not just Vista. Then right-click the executable after you've done the hack, and choose "Take Ownership." I'm not saying this is a guarantee, and it may be that you didn't install the game correctly, or it's 3DM's strange engine. But it's worth a go.
