The recipes are old (1905) and some of the terms are different. When telling you how much butter to use, she says "butter the size of an egg." She says use a "saltspoon" of salt. She calls a recipe a "rule." There are lots of good sounding recipes and I am definitely going to try many of them. In fact, I have one going on the stove right now.
