La colonna sonora, al cinema, ? un oggetto misterioso, spesso non si ci fa caso, altre volte ? cos? potente o invadente che ? impossibile che passi inosservata, o meglio inascoltata. Capita a volte che film molto belli abbiano colonne sonore mediocri oppure il contrario, in cui film di scarso successo, o almeno di scarso valore artistico secondo la critica, abbiano invece soundtrack di tutto rispetto.

I testi delle canzoni scritte appositamente per Highlander rievocano non solo le vicende del film, ma soprattutto propongono con grande potenza espressiva tutti i temi che i Queen hanno sempre portato avanti anche con altri album e singoli: la fratellanza, la visione globale, l?immortalit? vera e propria alla quale chiunque pu? aspirare. Un album molto personale e allo stesso tempo universale. Su tutti per?, i brani che maggiormente colpiscono l?immaginazione sono Who Want?s to Live Forever e Princes of the Universe: entrambi molto forti e strettamente legati alla trama di Highlander si sono ricoperti nel tempo del mito dei Queen, della leggenda di Mercury e soprattutto dell?intramontabile bellezza e forza che l?arte riesce a conferire all?anima degli artisti.

The soundtrack album (released under the Play-Tone name in conjunction with Epic Records) was also a hit, peaking at #21 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The CD artwork is a replica of the fictional Play-Tone label used in the movie, and the liner notes are done in a mockumentary style, as if the Wonders had been a real group and the events of the film had actually happened. Hanks later used the success of That Thing You Do! as a spring-board to launch the actual Playtone Records label, through which the soundtracks of all his subsequent films, and other films like Bring It On and television programs like The Sopranos were released as albums.

Nell'estate del 1964 Guy fa il commesso presso il negozio di elettrodomestici del padre, in Pennsylvania. Ma di notte si siede alla batteria e comincia a suonare musica jazz. Una rock band locale, cui è mancato il batterista, gli chiede di sostituirlo. Passa un mese e "The Wonders", fanno ormai parte del firmamento del rock.!
