One of the more bizarre characters to emerge from WW2 and described in these extracts from Ben MacIntyre's book was professional criminal Eddie Chapman. Finding himself in Jersey Prison at the time the Germans captured the island, Eddie came up with a brilliant escape plan - offer to work for the Germans as a spy.
