Aladdin 1992 Disney Early Workprint

Here's a very early workprint of Disney's 1992 film Aladdin.

It's mostly storyboards at this point, with only some pencil and final animation, and the script is a bit different from the final film, with some different songs and sequences.

Aladdin sings a song to Abu early on, "You Can Count On Me," about their friendship. It sounds a bit like "Think Of Me" from Phantom of the Opera.

At the end, the Peddler from the beginning of the film returns to sing a reprise of "Arabian Nights." A slightly rewritten version of this song was used to close the sequel film, Aladdin and the King of Thieves.

The quality isn't great. Sound levels are low and hissy, picture is grainy and wobbly (though clean enough). This could have used some restoration, but oh well, here it is.

Music from "Scheherezade" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is used when Jasmine is about to get her hand chopped off at the market ... This is one of many scenes that are clearly inspired by Richard Williams' unfinished film The Thief and the Cobbler (which often used the same music, and had a notable hand-chopping scene).
