Description
The Discovery Channel aired a new post-season "Alaskan Bush People" special entitled, "The Lost Footage" on Friday night at the normal timeslot. The title reminds us of those creepy Animal Planet “Lost Footage” videos about Bigfoot and Chupacabre, and a few parts of this show were about as believable. There was not a whole lot of new material here, but the interesting part was what the film crew said about their time spent following the Browns around.
The camera people and crew spoke extensively about the very real dangers that they had encountered in this assignment. Tumultuous sea, bears and unexpected weather were all mentioned as part of the daily routine. They were shown on a boat in very turbulent seas as they travelled an hour from Hoonah to where the Browns “lived.” The boat even took on water, “Gilligan’s Island style.” It’s funny, the Browns have travelled back and forth to Hoonah all the time in their storyline, and no threatening seas were mentioned. Noah even took their wretched boat, “The Lorcan,” and went to his swing set date with Christie. Bears are always a reality in Alaska, but the video clip about Matt being such a wildman that he was stalking a bear with a spear (a big stick) may not be. The female cameraman said she left the filming on the beach to go follow Matt as he stalked a bear. To regular viewers of “Alaskan Bush People,” that doesn’t quite gel with the picture of Matt that has been portrayed in two seasons of the show. The weather was described as always rainy, which was surprising because viewers have not been shown that aspect of the climate. And, the Browns are always featured in the same clothing, carefully washed and dry. That confirms that Noah’s bush clothes dryer must be terribly efficient. The Guardian had a recap of that June 5 episode. The crew seemed most amazed by Bear and his “extreme” physical energy and activity level. They seemed to want to confirm to us that Bear was what he says he is and more. So, it seems that he indeed does just run through the woods all the time like a prehistoric creature (or Mick Dodge.) Of course, according to the crew member being interviewed, he stops to comb his hair often so that he maintains his “extreme” hair look. So, this isn’t odd behavior for a 27-year-old man?
