American Top 40 1972 March 25th Guest Host Dick Clark (Size: 249.66 MB)
Description"From the salty gray Atlantic to the salty blue Pacific, these are the forty best-selling records of the week. Dick Clark sitting in for Casey Kasem who returns next week at this same time. And now the countdown continues." Originally broadcast on March 25th, 1972, this program is brought to you by RocketMan's College of Musical Knowledge in conjunction with the CoPilot of the Airwaves (and his faithful dog Shukatoom). This is American Top 40 with Casey Kasem. In this countdown: Dick finds a song in the countdown that was banned from airplay in Great Britain. You don't have to look very far down the chart to figure out which one. Dick plays the #1 song from one year ago this date, by a woman who lived a whole lifetime in 27 years. Dick tells about the girl who said to herself at a New York stage production of Hair, "I shouldn’t be down here in the audience, I should be up there on stage." Two years later she was. That girl is Beverly Bremers, at #30 with "Don't Say You Don't Remember." There is a song in the countdown that was written 200 years earlier. Happy birthday. Three listeners all ask the same question, "Has a #1 record ever dropped completely off the chart, and then come back to hit #1 again?" Dick says in the history of the Billboard charts it has happened only once, and tells a story that has a twist. This week's highest debut is all the way up at #17, "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack. A listener wants to know how a hit record gets to be designated as gold or platinum. Dick gives the answer to that and explains the technicality that has kept Motown from ever having a gold record. 40: Do Your Thing - Isaac Hayes 39: Could It Be Forever - David Cassidy 38: (The Day I Found You Was) The Day I Found Myself - Honey Cone 37: Give Ireland Back To The Irish - Wings 36: No One To Depend On - Santana 35: Every Day Of My Life - Bobby Vinton 34: Glory Bound - Grass Roots 33: Take A Look Around - Temptations EXTRA: Me And Bobby McGhee - Janis Joplin 32: Day Dreaming - Aretha Franklin 31: Taurus - Dennis Coffey and The Detroit Guitar Band 30: Don't Say You Don't Remember - Beverly Bremers 29: Sweet Seasons - Carole King 28: Floy Joy - Supremes 27: Joy - Apollo 100 26: Crazy Mama - J.J.
