American Top 40 1973 January 6th (Size: 205.75 MB)
Description"Every week based on Billboard's national statistics of record sales, we count down the fourty most popular songs in the nation. My name is Casey Kasem, and the countdown continues." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio. None of the Casey-announced Extras are from the original show. There are 15 new songs since the last regular countdown which was suspended for 2 weeks to make way for the Top 40 hits of 1973 and The All-Time Christmas Countdown, which now float in cyber-space all year round. David Beats Davis! Recount Request Possible: Casey sets the record straight concerning which artist had the longest span of time between his first chart record and his first #1 hit. Casey previously reported it was Sammy Davis Jr. (with 18 years and 2 months), but now all the polls are in and he declares orchestra leader David Rose (with 18 years and 5 months) to be the winner. Howard K. Smith and Harry Reasoner are getting warmed up in the bullpen. Mr. Casey reports "Hi Hi Hi" by Wings (at number 22) banned from BBC Radio because they think the song is about drugs. Paul says that's nonsense, it's about sex! So Paul really isn't dead, huh? A listener asks a loaded question; "What record stayed at number one the longest, not in all of chart history, but just since Elvis began making hits?" Casey says it was a 1956, 2-sided hit by the King himself. Casey didn't read a different letter wanting to know who's buried in Grant's Tomb! The new #1 song makes this only the 2nd time in chart history that husband and wife each hit #1 with individual solo recordings. The first married husband and wife were also the parents of Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia of Star Wars fame. Casey will tell you about everything else but that, because it didn't happen yet. Finally, Brighter Side Of Darkness is at #32 with "Love Jones" while Billy Paul is at #3 with "Me And Mrs. Jones" and this is why nobody in 1973 could keep up with the Jonses and where that expression came from (but in later years, some White House officials did hide behind the Bushes). 40: Reelin’ And Rockin’ – Chuck Berry 39: Corner Of The Sky – Jackson 5 38: You Turn Me On, I’m A Radio – Joni Mitchell 37: Jambalaya (On The Bayou) – Blue Ridge Rangers 36: If You Don’t Know Me By Now – Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes 35: Rocky Mountain High – John Denver 34: Dancing In The Moonlight – King Harvest 33: I Can See Clearly Now – Johnny Nash 32: Love Jones – Brighter Side Of Darkness 31: Do It Again – Steely Dan 30: The World Is A Ghetto - War 29: Smoke Gets In Your Eyes – Blue Haze 28: Separate Ways – Elvis Presley 27: Papa Was A Rolling Stone – The Temptations 26: Trouble Man – Marvin Gaye 25: Oh Babe, What Would You Say – Hurricane Smith 24: Been To Canaan – Carole King 23: I Wanna Be With You - Raspberries 22: Hi Hi Hi – Wings 21: Pieces Of April – Three Dog Night 20: Sweet Surrender - Bread 19: Why Can’t We Live Together – Timmy Thomas 18: Sitting – Cat Stevens 17: Walk On Water – Neil Diamond 16: Something’s Wrong With Me – Austin Roberts 15: Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight – James Taylor 14: I Am Woman – Helen Reddy 13: Crocodile Rock – Elton John 12: Living In The Past – Jethro Tull 11: Keeper Of The Castle – The Four Tops 10: You Ought To Be With Me – Al Green 9: Superfly – Curtis Mayfield 8: Your Mama Don’t Dance – Loggins & Messina 7: Rockin’ Pneumonia-Boogie Woogie Flu – Johnny Rivers 6: It Never Rains In Southern California – Albert Hammond 5: Funny Face – Donna Fargo 4: Superstition – Stevie Wonder 3: Me And Mrs. Jones – Billy Paul 2: Clair – Gilbert O’ Sullivan 1: You’re So Vain – Carly Simon Related Torrents
