"This is Casey Kasem on American Top 40 and based on Billboard's tabulation of retail record sales these are the forty most popular songs in the nation this week, and each and every week at this time we count 'em down; forty through number one."

American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio.

There is a debut song by a singer who first made the chart 12 years earlier with the very same song.

Dickie Goodman checks in with a flying-saucer record, "Energy Crisis ’74" at #35, and he does a good job.

Casey gets a letter which says, "Besides 'Time In A Bottle' by Jim Croce, has any other record hit number one after the singer died?" Casey says twice before, by Janice Joplin in 1971 and also by Otis Redding in 1968.

Ten years earlier, a Catholic Nun in a foreign country made the American chart, and now a Catholic Nun in a foreign country had made the American chart. "The Lord’s Prayer" by Sister Janet Mead is at #31.

Casey gets a letter from a disc jockey that says, "I've been listening to the show for some time now, and I'm curious about the AT40 theme music at the beginning and end of each show. Could you tell me a little bit about it?" And then that's exactly what happens.

There is a hit by a folk singer whose name is Henry John Deutschendorf, a name that his record company asked him to change because they couldn't fit it on the label.

In the history of the charts, there is only one married couple who have both had #1 solo hits and a hit duet together. Casey tells all about it right before playing, "Mockingbird" by Carly Simon & James Taylor (at #8).

There is a song by a superstar of stage, screen, and records who was turned down when she tried to move into a certain apartment in New York City at the peak of her career because she wasn't the right sort of person.

A couple of times Casey mentions an upcoming show, known here at the RocketMan Conservitory as American_Top_40_1974_April_6th_40_Most_Extraordinary_British_Hits
