American Top 40 1976 February 28th (Size: 207.4 MB)
Description"We're countin' down to number one on American Top 40. I'm Casey Kasem and the countdown rolls on." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio. Elton John is growing funk at #14, but not for any of us. "Grow Some Funk Of Your Own" is his 15 consecutive Top 20 hit. Casey says there are 7 remakes this week: "Deep Purple" by Donny & Marie Osmond (at #23), "Tangerine" by the Salsol Orchestra (at #17), "Cupid" by Tony Orlando & Dawn (at #31), "Only Sixteen" by Dr. Hook (at #30), "Tracks Of My Tears" by Linda Ronstadt (at #25, Casey plays a sample of Smokey's version), "Baby Face" by The Wing and a Prayer Fife and Drum Corps (at #15), and "Breaking Up" Is Hard To Do" by Neil Sedaka (at #13). But I demand a recount because "Love Hurts" by Nazareth (at #10) was already a remake when the Everly Brothers and Roy Orbison did it, and "Lonely Night (Angel Face)" by The Captain & Tennille (at #9) was another Neil Sedaka composition and he recorded it in 1975 (I don't know if he told anybody though). Casey says this is only the third time in chart history that a TV theme has made number one. This week it is the theme from "S.W.A.T." by Rhythm Heritage. Casey reads a letter that says, "I've been wondering if any solo singers besides Donovan & Lulu have used only first names on their Top 40 hits." Casey names 10 more but leaves out Ernie who sang "Rubber Duckie" in 1970. A listener wants to know, "Who had the most songs in the Top 40 during 1975?" Casey calls it a tie between male and female solo-singers who each had five in '75. Another listener asks if there have ever been any records to hit the Top 40 by an actor or an actress who wasn't normally considered a singer. Casey says ten of them have hit the Top 10! Casey remembers Al Jolson, an entertainer who became such a legend in his own time that two major motion pictures were made about his life while he was still alive and still working. 40: Just You And I - Melissa Manchester 39: Renegade - Michael Murphy 38: Inseparable - Natalie Cole 37: Hold Back The Night - The Trammps 36: Take It Like A Man - Bachman Turner Overdrive 35: Love Is The Drug - Roxy Music 34: Sweet Love - The Commodores 33: Sing A Song - Earth, Wind & Fire 32: Tangerine - Salsol Orchestra 31: Cupid - Tony Orlando & Dawn EXTRA: Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys 30: Only Sixteen - Dr. Hook 29: Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen 28: Money Honey - The Bay City Rollers 27: Dream On - Aerosmith 26: Evil Woman - Electric Light Orchestra 25: Tracks Of My Tears - Linda Ronstadt 24: Slow Ride - Foghat 23: Deep Purple - Donny & Marie Osmond 22: The White Night - Cledus Maggard 21: Squeezebox - The Who 20: I Write The Songs - Barry Manilow 19: Golden Years - David Bowie 18: Fanny (Be Tender With My Love) - The Bee Gees 17: Junk Food Junkie - Larry Gross 16: Sweet Thing - Rufus Featuring Chakakahn 15: Baby Face - The Wing and a Prayer Fife and Drum Corps 14: Grow Some Funk Of Your Own - Elton John 13: Breaking Up Is Hard To Do - Neil Sedaka 12: Wake Up Everybody - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes 11: Love To Love You Baby - Donna Summer 10: Love Hurts - Nazareth 9: Lonely Night (Angel Face) - The Captain & Tennille 8: Dream Weaver - Gary Wright 7: Take It To The Limit - The Eagles 6: You Sexy Thing - Hot Chocolate 5: December 1963 - The Four Seasons 4: All By Myself - Eric Carmen 3: Love Machine (Part #1) - The Miracles 2: 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover - Paul Simon 1: Theme From "S.W.A.T." - Rhythm Heritage Related Torrents
