"From Washington DC to Seattle, Washington, from the Aleutian Islands to the Florida Keys, and from the Great Lakes to the Rio Grande, these are the most popular songs in the country this week."

American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio.

In this countdown you will hear "Baretta's Theme" (Keep Your Eye On The Sparrow) at number 24, "Welcome Back" (theme from Welcome Back Kotter) at number 7, "Happy Days" (theme from Happy Days) at number 5, and "Making Our Dreams Come True" (theme from Laverne and Shirley) as an extra.

Casey tells us whatever became of Doris Troy. Doris' one song, "Just One Look" was a hit in 1963. Casey plays some of it.

Billy Ocean, who would later sing "Caribbean Queen" is at number 36 with "Love Really Hurts Without You."

A listener asks, "Did any British artists hit number one on the American charts before The Beatles?" Casey says two British acts did, and both with instrumentals.

Thin Lizzy debuts "The Boys Are Back In Town" at number 32 but the highest debut of the week is "Take The Money And Run" by Steve Miller at number 30.

First American Top 40 hit for Peter Frampton ("Show Me The Way" at number 26) and The Brothers Johnson ("I'll Be Good To You" at number 23).

And Casey says "I Want You" by Marvin Gaye is his 50th hit record!
