American Top 40 1976 October 9th (Size: 696.57 MB)
Description"Once a week with AT40 and you hear the biggest songs in the USA." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio. In this countdown Casey makes a fuss about Nadia Comaneci as he introduces Nadia's Theme (at number 28 by Perry Bodkin Jr). She was the first athlete in the history of the Olympics to get a perfect score of 10 points in any gymnastic event. I've included video of her fantastic gymnastics as a RocketMan Extra (YouTube uploaders comaneci1 and Olympics). A listener writes in to ask, "What has been the most successful dance record in the rock era?" Casey says this record was so popular, it hit the chart twice, and went to number one both times! Another listener asks, "In the Rock Era, what American group holds the record for most weeks at number one?" The answer happens to be the group with the song that's identified as the very first rock 'n' roll song ever to hit number one on the chart. "I Only Want To Be With You" by Bay City Rollers (at number 17) is a remake of the Dusty Springfield hit from January of 1964. Casey plays a clip. As a RocketMan Extra, I included my own clip of Miss Springfield singing "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" (YouTube uploader is rleltzroth). "Say You Love Me" by Fleetwood Mac is at number 15. It is from the first album (also titled "Fleetwood Mac") in 32 years of Billboard's keeping track that hit number one after paying its dues on the Album Chart for a year. Yet another listener has a question. "What's the longest period of time in which the number one spot was occupied by a different song every week?" Casey says this twelve week streak of one week wonders occurred in January of 1975. The event was also book-ended by Elton John holding the number one spot for two weeks. Casey lists each one week wonder in order (but only once). 40: This One's For You - Barry Manilow 39: Do You Feel Like We Do - Peter Frampton 38: You Are My Starship - Norman Connors 37: Just To Be Close To You - Commodores 36: Like A Sad Song - John Denver 35: Rubber-Band Man - The Spinners 34: Did You Boogie With Your Baby - Flash Cadillac and The Continental Kids 33: Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John & Kiki Dee 32: Muskrat Love - The Captain and Tenille 31: The Best Disco In Town - The Richie Family 30: Get The Funk Out Of My Face - The Brothers Johnson 29: It's Ok - The Beach Boys 28: Nadia's Theme - Perry Bodkin, Jr 27: You Are The Woman - Firefall 26: One Love In My Lifetime - Diana Ross 25: Summer - War 24: Fernando - ABBA 23: Love So Right - The Bee Gees 22: With Your Love - Jefferson Starship 21: The Wreck Of The Edmond Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot 20: Beth - KISS 19: Don't Fear The Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult 18: Wham Bam - Silver 17: I Only Want To Be With You - Bay City Rollers 16: Magic Man - Heart 15: Say You Love Me - Fleetwood Mac 14: That'll Be The Day - Linda Ronstadt 13: Rockin' Me - Steve Miller Band 12: Get Away - Earth, Wind & Fire 11: A Little Bit More - Dr. Hook 10: She's Gone - Daryl Hall & John Oates 9: Shake Your Booty - KC & The Sunshine Band 8: I'd Really Love To See You Tonight - England Dan & John Ford Coley 7: Still The One - Orleans 6: Devil Woman - Cliff Richard 5: If You Leave Me Now - Chicago 4: Disco Duck - Rick Dees 3: Lowdown - Boz Scaggs 2: Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry 1: A 5th Of Beethoven - The Walter Murphy Band Related Torrents
