American Top 40 1977 January 15th

This countdown is only the third time that a song made the Top 40 in a studio recording, and then returned later in a live version by the same artist. Joing the ranks of Neil Diamond and Barbara Streisand is Lynyrd Skynyrd at number 38 with a live recording of "Free Bird."

If you ever wondered about the Top 10 most successsful recording acts on the American charts since the end of World War II, Casey finds the answer in the AT40 Book of Records.

A listener who doesn't drink Sukiyaki or drive a Volare wants to know if there has ever been a recording act from a non-English speaking country that hit #1 on the American charts. Casey lists 10 acts from 9 non-English speaking countries have hit #1.

And another listener wants to know, "Which female solo singer during the Rock Era has had the most Top 10 hits?" Casey says this lady had 16 Top 10 hits; her first was "Who's Sorry Now" in 1958 and her last was "V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N" in 1962.
