"We're countin' cdown the biggest hit songs in the USA from Fargo to Ft. Worth, from, Green Bay, to Brownsville, from Billings, to Birmingham, from Fairbanks to Phoenix, from Hanover to Honolulu. I'm Casey Kasem."

American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio.

This countdown has Halloween themed extras. The Theme from the movie Halloween (composed and performed by director John Carpenter), "Frankenstein" by The Edgar Winter Group, "Tubular Bells" (by Mike Oldfield) from The Exorcist, and The "Monster" Mash by Bobby "Boris" Pickett.

Casey also plays a song that cost record executives $3,000,000 because they decided NOT to include it in the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack, the biggest selling LP of all time (to date anyway).

A listener asks, "Since the Rock Era began, what record moved up and down the chart the most times before finally falling off?" Casey says this yo-yo record changed directions 17 times in its chart life.

In Segment 2 about 7 minutes (near the end of "Took The Last Train" by David Gates at number 36) you get to hear some genuine 1978 static (I wonder if I could take it on the Antiques Roadshow?).

"Almost Like Being In Love" at number 33 is by Michael Johnson but was first heard in 1947 in a Lerner & Lowe musical, Brigadoon. Casey gives us the Cliff Notes.

From the AT40 Archive: If you find one of my awesome notepads lying around where I corrected the spelling of "Thank You (Falletin Me Be Mice Elf Again)" by Sly And The Family Stone (I mean, if it says, "Thank You For Allowing You To Be Myself Again"), Casey plays it so I can gave a chance to redeem myself here. One of those L's was silent.

What artist in the Rock Era has the most albums on the LP chart without ever having a Top 40 single? Casey reports through the 60's this artist put 25 albums on the LP chart, 8 went into the Top 10, and 2 to number 1.

Casey mentions the upcoming episode of Charlie's Angels that aired on October 18th, 1978. He has a role in it, but doesn't say if he is a hero or a villain. You should check out "RocketMan_Extras_Package_1" if you would like a copy.

"Three Times A Lady" by The Commodores is at number 21. Casey explains how it got its title. Casey also tells about The Who's forgetful drummer Keith Moon, who once charted a 747 from Germany to London for a concert performance that would have started in a few hours if it hadn't been cancelled, and he just forgot about it. The Who are at number 19 with, "Who Are You."

From the AT40 Book of Records: Casey gives a mention to the most successful female singer/songwriter of the 70's.

Olivia Newton-John Alert: She is at number 10 with "Hopelessly Devoted To You" and number 9 with "Summer Nights" duetting with John Travolta (is that a word?).
