"From Boston to Burbank, from Flint to Phoenix, (and from Kodiak to Caribou, Dearborn to Elkhart) these are the 40 most popular singles in America this week. I'm Casey Kasem."

Originally broadcast on April 21st, 1979, this program is brought to you by RocketMan's College of Musical Knowledge in conjunction with the CoPilot of the Airwaves (and his faithful dog Shukatoom). This is American Top 40 with Casey Kasem.

Back at the beginning of 1970, the last three singles The Beatles ever released each debuted all the way up in the Top 40. In the nine years since, no one has been able to match that chart performance, until now. This week, for the 3rd time in a row, the phenomenal Bee Gees debut on Billboard's Hot 100 in the Top 40. "Love You Inside Out" is at #37.

In the recent past, Andy Gibb was continuously in the Top 40 for 45 weeks in a row (it took 3 different songs to do it). Now a listener wants to know who holds the Rock Era record for most consecutive week in the Top 40. The act in question stayed in the Top 40 for 169 weeks, and used 23 songs to do it, and it wasn't Elvis or The Beatles. Casey gives the answer.

Moving up 8 steps to #32 is this week's biggest mover, "Rock And Roll Fantasy" by Bad Company.

Casey tells us whatever happened to the group known as The Turtles.

A listener asks, "Who is the biggest country cross-over act of the 70's?" Casey says the music this Mexican-American songwriter makes is called Tex Mex. With 7 singles in the Hot 100 since 1975, 4 of those making the Top 40, and one #1, Freddy Fender is the Country singer with the most success on the Pop Chart.
