"Every week on American Top 40 we count down the biggest hits in the USA from Honey Creek to Sweetwater; from Sugar Hill to Chocolate Bayou."

American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This is a recording of a rebroadcast from internet radio.

This broadcast was previously shared without the first hour and no extras. This is closer to how it should have been done.

Donna Summer mentions the "old Victrola" in her song "Dim All The Lights" (at number 39. I've included some pictures concerning that particular apparatus.

Cheap Trick is at number 38 with "Ain't That A Shame," a remake of a Fats Domino hit. Just for fun, I've included the Domino original as a RocketMan Extra.

There is a song that was written in five minutes without ever putting pen to paper.

Casey tells the story of the millionaire grocery store executive who got into the music business and made a million dollars.

A listener wants to know, "What song took the fewest weeks to reach the number one spot?"

In 1979, a hit album cost about $100,000 to produce, but the number one song in this countdown comes from an album that the penny-pinching producer only spent $20,000 to get it out.
