"We're countin' down the hottest hits in the USA from Kenney, Illinois, to Log Lane Village, Colorado; from Kennydale, Washington, to Logdell, Oregon. At number 15 for the third week, here's 'Heart To Heart' by Kenny Loggins."

American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio.

In this countdown:

Linda Ronstadt remakes Billy Joe Royal's 1965 #14 hit "I Knew You When." Casey plays a bit of the former before the latter.

If the name of the group ABBA was formed by the initials of the first names of its members, then how could someone named Frieda have ever been a part? Casey solves the mystery right after "I Know There's Something Going On" (at number 36).

Right before playing "The Girl Is Mine" by Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney (at number 34), Casey says some mysterious figure bought all of Linda Eastman's Kodak photos of the Beatles from an art gallery for $24,000. Casey tells us how the story developed.

Immediately after "Dirty Laundry" (at number 32) by Don Henley, a listener asks who has had the most #1 singles without ever having a #1 album. Casey says it is a tie between Michael Jackson and Frankie Vallie, with seven #1's each. In just two weeks, the Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album would end that tie.

Taps on tap! Casey details the origin of the bugle call, "Taps" right after playing "What About Me" by Moving Pictures (at number 29).

Casey tells how Christopher Cross (at number 16 with "All Right" went from being chauffeur to the stars to being a chauffeured star.

A listener wants to know what female recording artist has had the most Top 10 albums. The three leading women are Doris, Diana, and Barbara. Casey puts them in order right after "Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy" (at number 14) by Sammy Hagar.

28 year-old Englishman Stewart Goddard is in the countdown with his first Top 40 hit. Casey tells you his stage name.

Marvin Gaye just tied Ray Charles for most weeks (10 that is) at number one on the Soul Chart with "Sexual Healing" (at #3 this week here on the Pop Chart).

This week's new #1 has been #1 now for 4 out of 5 nonconsecutive weeks (it took last week off while it vacationed at #2).
