American Top 40 1984 January 21st (Size: 275.01 MB)
Description"Every week we count down the biggest hits in the land from Shannon, Mississippi, to Shannon City, Iowa; from Shannon, South Dakota, to Shannontown, South Carolina; and at number 22, here's the woman who calls herself Shannon, 'Let The Music Play'." Originally broadcast on January 21st, 1984, this program is brought to you by RocketMan's College of Musical Knowledge in conjunction with the CoPilot of the Airwaves (and his faithful dog Shukatoom). This is American Top 40 with Casey Kasem. In this countdown: The notepad file-name says 1975, but that was a mistake. It goes with this countdown. A listener asks, "Elvis was the top act of the 1950's and The Beatles were the top act of the 1960's but who were the top acts of the 1940's and the 1970's?" Casey says a crooner from the 40's sold more records than anyone in history, and three brothers from the 70's starred on the biggest selling soundtrack album in history. "Nobody Told Me" by John Lennon debuts at number 36 on the fourth year after his death. Casey lists the five songs to hit the chart sung entirely in German, including one by The Beatles that only made #99, and the one at #33, "99 Luftballons" by Nena. How many Grammy nominations in a single year is enough? Casey gives a Special Report detailing how Michael Jackson just broke an 18 year-old record by getting 12, and who held the old record. A listener wants to know where the first recording studio was and who was the first recording act to record in it. Casey reports the first recording studio was in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and plays a remake of the recording (from 1927) because the original was intentionally destroyed 50 years earlier. 40: Uptown Girl – Billy Joel 39: In The Mood – Robert Plant 38: Send Me An Angel – Real Life 37: Remember The Night – The Motels 36: Nobody Told Me – John Lennon 35: Nightbird – Stevie Nicks 34: Jump – Van Halen 33: 99 Luftballons - Nena 32: The Sign Of Fire – The Fixx 31: Wrapped Around Your Finger – The Police 30: Stay With Me Tonight – Jeffrey Osborne 29: Gold – Spandau Ballet 28: So Bad – Paul McCartney 27: Yah Mo B There – James Ingram with Michael McDonald 26: Baby I Lied – Deborah Allen 25: Middle Of The Road – The Pretenders 24: An Innocent Man – Billy Joel LDD: Endless Love – Diana Ross and Lionel Richie 23: All Night Long (All Night) – Lionel Richie 22: Let The Music Play - Shannon 21: Read ‘em And Weep – Barry Manilow 20: Undercover Of The Night – The Rolling Stones 19: If I’d Been The One – .38 Special 18: Time Will Reveal - DeBarge 17: Holiday - Madonna 16: I Still Can’t Get Over Loving You – Ray Parker Jr 15: The Curly Shuffle – Jump ‘N The Saddle 14: Think Of Laura – Christopher Cross 13: Pink Houses – John Cougar Mellencamp 12: That’s All – Genesis 11: Union Of The Snake – Duran Duran 10: Say It Isn’t So – Daryl Hall & John Oates 9: Running With The Night – Lionel Richie 8: Joanna – Kool & The Gang 7: Twist Of Fate – Olivia Newton-John 6: I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues – Elton John 5: Break My Stride - Matthew Wilder LDD: Hello Goodbye - The Beatles 4: Talking In Your Sleep – The Romantics 3: Karma Chameleon – Culture Club 2: Say Say Say – Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson 1: Owner Of A Lonely Heart - Yes Related Torrents
