American Top 40 1987 March 28th (Size: 272.39 MB)
Description"Once a week with AT40 and you know how your favorite songs are doing across the USA, from Stone Mountain, Georgia, to Stone Park, Illinois; from Stone Lake, Wisconsin, to Stone Harbor, New Jersey, and from New Jersey, at #25 here's Kool & The Gang with 'Stone Love'." Originally broadcast on March 28th, 1987, this program is brought to you by RocketMan's College of Musical Knowledge in conjunction with the CoPilot of the Airwaves (and his faithful dog Shukatoom). This is American Top 40 with Casey Kasem. In this countdown: Television commercials sell products, but in Britain they also happen to be selling old hit songs used in those commercials; 30 year old American songs that are now going back to the top of the British chart. Robert Cray's first hit is at #33, "Smoking Gun." He is the blues guitarist who played the most famous fraternity party in history, the toga party in Animal House. There is a record called "Dominoes" by Robbie Nevil (at #29), so Casey tells about a record FOR dominoes, the Guinness Book of World Record for Domino Tumbling. It took over a month to set them up, and almost an hour to knock them down (some shot rockets!). As an AT40 Extra, Casey plays a song from a movie about a fictional town where dancing in public is against the law, then he tells about the real Oklahoma town where dancing in public is illegal (you gotta fight for your right to party!). Casey tells listeners whatever happened to Rupert "Pina Colada" Holmes. A song he wrote is in this countdown. A listener asks, "In the 70's, what act had the most #1 songs?" Casey lists the Top five acts, and the family act at the top had 9 #1's in the 70's. When Phil Collins did so much solo work in the early 80's, we all thought he might have taken an exodus from Genesis but since they are in this countdown (at #4 with "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight"), the fact that Genesis was still together should come as no revelation.
