American Top 40 1987 October 17th (Size: 277.4 MB)
Description"Once a week with AT40 and you know how your favorite songs are doing across the USA." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio. In this countdown Casey recounts the dietary habits of the Fat Boys (who join the Beach Boys to deliver "Wipeout") and are now themselves wiped out at number 37 (but we can get dessert to go can't we?). A listener asks, "How many foreign language songs have hit number one?" Casey tells about one in Italian, ("Volare" by Domenico Modugno), one in Japanese ("Sukiyaki" by Kyu Sakamoto), one in French ("Dominique" by Jeanine Deckers, the Singing Nun), and one in Spanish ("La Bamba" by Los Lobos, at number 35 this week). The answer to that question is capped by a double-shot of Los Lobos/Ritchie Valens covers because next door at number 34 is "Come On, Let's Go." Both "Mony Mony" (at number 14 by Billy Idol) and "I Think We're Alone Now" (at number 11 by Tiffany) are both remakes of songs by Tommy James (as was "Crimson And Clover" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts circa 1981). In RocketMan_Extras_1987_10_17 you can find a video of Mr. James and his Shondells performing "Crimson And Clover" on Ed Sullivan (courtesy of WNED Buffalo - Toronto but lip-synched), "Crimson And Clover" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (for comparison; YouTube uploader andrewbrooks123, 2007, not lip-synched), "Bad" by Michael Jackson (at number 4), "Fat" by Wierd Al (for comparison), Sukiyaki (Live) - English Version by a group called 4 PM (YouTube uploader linglingrock), "Volare" by Domenico Modugno (on Ed Sullivan, YouTube uploader reflecteddetcelfer). 40: Hourglass - Squeeze 39: I Just Can't Stop Loving You - Michael Jackson with Siedah Garrett 38: Notorius - Loverboy 37: Wipeout - Fat Boys & The Beach Boys 36: Can't We Try - Dan Hill (duet with Vonda Shepard) 35: La Bamba - Los Lobos 34: Come On, Let's Go - Los Lobos 33: When Smokey Sings - ABC 32: Something Real (Inside Me/Inside You) - Mr. Mister 31: I Won't Forget You - Poison LDD: You're Only Human (Second Wind) – Billy Joel 30: The One I Love - R.E.M. 29: Holiday - The Other Ones 28: Should've Known Better - Richard Marx EXTRA: Someday, We'll Be Together – The Supremes 27: Heaven Is A Place On Earth - Belinda Carlisle 26: I've Been In Love Before - The Cutting Crew 25: (I've Had) The Time Of My Life - Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes 24: Don't Make Me Wait For Love - Kenny G. 23: One Heartbeat - Smokey Robinson 22: In My Dreams - REO Speedwagon 21: Where The Streets Have No Name - U2 20: Brilliant Disguise - Bruce Springsteen 19: It's A Sin - The Pet Shop Boys 18: You Are The Girl - The Cars 17: Jump Start - Natalie Cole 16: Breakout - Swing Out Sister 15: Didn't We Almost Have It All - Whitney Houston 14: Mony Mony - Billy Idol 13: Little Lies - Fleetwood Mac 12: Let Me Be The One - Expose 11: I Think We're Alone Now - Tiffany 10: I Heard A Rumour (from "Disorderlies") - Bananarama 9: Paper In Fire - John Cougar Mellencamp 8: Casanova - Levert 7: Who Will You Run To – Heart LDD: I Just Called To Say I Love You – Stevie Wonder 6: Here I Go Again - Whitesnake 5: Causing A Commotion - Madonna 4: Bad - Michael Jackson 3: Carrie - Europe 2: U Got The Look - Prince 1: Lost In Emotion - Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam Related Torrents
