Andrei Eshpai - V Con No 2 - D Kitaenko, E Grach, Moscow Phil (1981) [Philidor; FLAC] (Size: 96.48 MB)
DescriptionAndrei Eshpai was the son of a composer, and the father of a respected film director. He belonged to that group of musicians that neither revolted against the authorities in the last decades of the Soviet regime, nor offered up hack works by the dozens extolling its virtues. His Second Violin Concerto was dedicated to the memory of his teacher, Nicolai Myaskovsky, who suffered greatly upon his designation as one of the worst "anti-Soviet" composers following the Zhdanov Decree in 1947. It doesn't take too much of an imagination to hear bitterness and despair in this uncompromising work, composed and premiered in 1981. Eduard Grach is the soloist in this live performance, and he digs into the piece with all the expressive fury of which he was very capable. Transfers are made at 768 kBits/s, directly from the disc.
