In 1846 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania a Anti-Slavery Fair was held to raise awareness of the plight of African American peoples across the United States. Written and illustrated by unknown peoples and presented by the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery society the "Anti Slavery Alphabet" was aimed at both adults and children alike. Its authors hoped it would kindle the flame of humanity in its readers and bring about a better tomorrow.Nineteen years after the publication of the the "Anti Slavery Alphabet" slavery was abolished by passing of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.Although slavery was abolished in the Unites States it the message in this book is still very relevant as many other nations still turn a blind eye to slavery today.
