Description
Arja "Appe" Vanajas has been an active figure in the Finnish underground scene. She worked with groups like Sperm, Sikiöt and Those Lovely Hulahands in the late 1960's-early 1970's. Between 1987 and 2000 she either acted in or wrote music for a number of short films and one feature-length movie, Claes Olsson's "Elvis-kissan jäljillä". She co-wrote Hasse Walli's autobiography "Hehkuva kitara" in 1996.
In 1977 she made a single for Love Records. Two self-penned songs that move somewhere between rock'n'roll and soul and display her powerful voice. Janis Joplin can be clearly heard as an influence. Also try to get her self-financed CD "So So So" (2004), where she sings 15 songs and accompanies herself on piano.
