Description This is a fine selection of largely French songs and dances from the 14th and 15th centuries, spanning a number of styles and cultures. It's also one of Alla Francesca's more expansive albums, since they add on the three musicians of the "loud" ensemble, Alta, to provide various mixes of bombard, recorders, pipe and drum, cornett, shawm, and slide trumpet.  This is a good example of one of the more energetic pieces on the album: http://tindeck.com/listen/gfll The Moorish-influenced theme, with its seeming refusal to end by continuous return to the seventh note of the tone, is heard with increasingly energetic instrumentation each of three times.
