The Boston Pops Orchestra was founded in 1885 as a subsection of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), founded four years earlier.
Arthur fiedler was the Pops conductor for almost 50 years, 1930-1979. From 1980-1995 John Williams (film music composer) was the conductor and he holds the positon as Laureate Conductor, 1994–present.
