J.S. Bach: The Six keyboard Partitas BWV 825-830 Huguette Dreyfus, harpsichord (Schutz) Eminent French harpsichordist, Huguette Dreyfus, made a set of recordings of Bach’s Keyboard Partitas for the Denon label in the early 1980s – they were instantly cited as amongst the best interpretations on harpsichord but have remained unavailable for well over twenty years. It is astonishing that more of her recordings are not currently in the catalogue considering the profound influence she has had on future generations of harpsichordists and the contribution she has made to a better understanding of the music written for her instrument. Typical of Denon, the sound recordings presented here are of demonstration quality. ‘There is no denying the convincing style that brings its own life and vibrancy to these performances … these recordings are very natural sounding and the perspective suits the interpretations at every level.’ – Dominy Clements, Music Web International, October 2015 ‘This is an enormously enjoyable and thought provoking release.’ – Stuart Sillitoe, MusicWeb International, September 2015 ‘These are excellent interpretations — amongst the finest I have heard on any instrument.’ – James Jolly, Gramophone Awards Issue, September 2015 ‘As model performances of this astonishingly varied set of keyboard pieces, this recording takes some beating.’ – Brian Clark, Early Music Review, August 2015 ‘Dreyfus’s fine technique and natural musicianship make me favourably inclined towards her set… Dreyfus, undoubtedly the best served by recorded sound, provides warm but definitely ‘no-nonsense’ readings with plenty of musical insight… my own preference lies with the ingenuous playing of Huguette Dreyfus.’ – Nicholas Anderson, Gramophone, July 2015 Sharing Widget |
