BAND OF BROTHERS Disc 2







This 10-part HBO television miniseries focuses on Easy Company,

a group of American soldiers in World War II,

tracking their experiences from the beginning of boot camp to the end of the war.

Anchored by actors Damian Lewis and Ron Livingston,

the series gives detailed attention to their experiences as a group,

as well as the way that each of them develops individually.

Based on historian Stephen E. Ambrose's book of real-life accounts,

BAND OF BROTHERS was executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks,

who worked together on SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

Hanks also directed one episode, featuring his son, Colin Hanks.













Part 3: CARENTAN

Two days after D-day, some members of Easy Company are still lost and alone in Normandy, including Pvt. ALBERT BLITHE (Marc Warren). He finds the rest of the unit just in time to help them take the town of Carentan, which Allied armor from Utah and Omaha beaches need in order to link up.



During the successful fight for the town, Easy suffers several casualties, including a minor leg wound to Lt. WINTERS, and a case of "hysterical blindness" for Blithe. The company moves out to set up a defensive position and runs into a German counterattack on the way. They engage in a lengthy firefight, which eventually includes German and then American tanks.



Blithe, after getting advice and encouragement from Lts. HARRY WELSH (Rick Warden), RONALD SPEIRS (Matthew Settle), and Winters, screws up his courage enough to stand up in his foxhole and fire his rifle at the enemy, eventually killing a German. But the next day, on a patrol, Blithe is shot in the neck by a sniper, a wound he will never recover from. The company returns to England after 36 days in Normandy, but their celebrations are short-lived, as news comes that they will be moving out again.

Easy Company krijgt van hogerhand de opdracht om het stadje Carentan in te nemen. Deze stad ligt een stuk landinwaarts en bezit een belangrijk treinstation.



In de slag die volgt vallen er verschillende slachtoffers. Sommige soldaten, zoals de emotionele Blithe (Marc Warren) hebben het moeilijk om over te schakelen van training naar de werkelijkheid van de oorlog. Zijn maten raken en gewond en er vallen doden.



Na de verovering van Carentan, waarbij Winters een schampschot aan zijn been oploopt, moet een Duitse tegenaanval (met panzers) worden afgeslagen.



Na zeven weken strijd keert het regiment terug naar Engeland. Maar hun vreugde is van zeer korte duur als blijkt dat ze er al snel weer op uit moeten.













Part 4: REPLACEMENTS

A group of fresh replacements joins Easy Company in time for a massive paradrop into German-occupied Holland. The Dutch townspeople of Eindhoven welcome them as liberators.



But when Easy and a cluster of British tanks move into a nearby town, they are met by a superior German force and must retreat after suffering many casualties. One of these is Sgt. "BULL" RANDLEMAN (Michael Cudlitz), who hides out overnight in a barn. A Dutch farmer and his daughter tend to him, and eventually he has to bayonet and bury a German soldier who wanders in.



Meanwhile, Randleman's friends and the members of the squad he leads fear him dead, and finally decide to head back into the town to try to find him. He escapes the barn and meets them on the way, finally returning to the company and getting a warm welcome. As they move onto another assignment in Holland, Capt. WINTERS laments having to retreat, and Capt. NIXON tells him the ambitious allied operation in Holland looks to have failed.

Aangezien de strijd nogal wat doden en gewonden op heeft geleverd krijgt Easy een groep nieuwe versterkingen toebedeelt. Deze 'nieuwe' jongens worden met gemengde gevoelens ontvangen. Er is wat wrijving tussen de 'veteranen' en de replacements zoals Heffron, King, Hashey en Compton.



Ondertussen heeft het geallieerde oppercommando besloten operatie Market Garden uit te gaan voeren. Als onderdeel van deze actie zal de 101ste Airborne Divisie een deel van het 'parachutisten-tapijt' vormen die de weg voor de pantsertroepen vrij zal moeten maken. De landingen in Nederland gaan voor Easy van een leien dakje.

Ze komen als 'Angels from Above' uit de heldere lucht op de uitgestrekte Nederlandse akkers neervallen. De mannen bevrijden Eindhoven zonder enige noemenswaardige tegenstand en krijgen hulp aangeboden van het Nederlandse ondergrondse verzet (een gastrol van Hugo Metsers de IIIde). Met gemengde gevoelens zien ze hoe de Nederlandse bevolking zich massaal aan het afreageren is op mensen die verdacht worden van 'heulen' met de vijand.



Later worden de paratroepers samen met wat Engelse tanks teruggeworpen door sterke Duitse troepen. Hierbij vallen veel slachtoffers.

Eén soldaat, Bull Randleman, blijft achter en verstopt zich in een boerenschuur. Terwijl Compton door allebei zijn bilhelften wordt geschoten.
