Barbet Schroeder - The Charles Bukowski Tapes - 1985

52 vignettes of approximately 5 minutes apiece as director Barbet Schroeder interviews Charles Bukowski in preparation for the film Barfly.

Apparently the Barfly project took 7 years to complete so we see Bukowski over quite a bit of his heyday (i.e around 60 years old).



Some parts are just talking heads, while others take us into some of Bukowski's old haunts, by foot, and in a cherry red convertable through Hollywood slums.



One scary piece is his rather violent argument with his future wife Linda Lee.

Some just plain drunken blatherings, some disturbing, some insightful.
