In 1930s Glasgow a group of shipyard workers formed Creagh Dhu, an unconventional
climbing club. Members climbed where they wanted with whatever equipment
they could lay their hands on, and drank as if the hangover hadn't been invented.
They were working-class trade unionists in a sport then the preserve of the middle class.
This was the inspiration for The Glasgow Climbing Club, written by David Napthine, creator of the Recall Man series.
Three men - a shop steward, a political activist and their unemployed friend -
set out on a climb, hoping to leave shipyard politics behind.
