"Berkeley Breathed's OUTLAND - The Complete Library - Sunday Comics: 1989-1995"

"Outland" by Berkeley Breathed premiered in newspapers as a Sunday-only strip in September of 1989, following immediately from the end of "Bloom County." Breathed began his second syndicated strip with a minor character from the previous strip, Ronald-Ann Smith, passing through a magic doorway in a grimy alley into a cheery world of "cotton-candy trees" known as the Outland. In its earliest form, "Outland" had been intended to be an experimental strip for Breathed, featuring a channel for creativity in the form of new characters and bizarre backgrounds. However, Opus the Penguin showed up after only a few weeks, followed in time by Bill the Cat and other characters from "Bloom County." Before long, the premise of another world beyond a magic door had been lost completely, and the strip became, as Breathed later wrote, "Bloom County without the continuing narrative that a daily appearance allows."

Unlike most of my torrents, this one actually is a scan of the book. It collects in one volume the entire run of "Outland" Sunday strips from 1989 to 1995, with introductory notes and additional comments along the way from the author.
