Briolette Kah Bic Runga (born 13 January 1976) is a New Zealand singer-songwriter whose first solo album, Drive, debuted at number one in the New Zealand charts, and has since become one of the highest-selling New Zealand artists of all time. Runga has also found success internationally in Australia, the Republic of Ireland and to some extent in the UK.
Birds is a superb distillation of Bic Runga's incredible songwriting talent and her firm grasp on the universal language of romance. Undercurrents of subtle melancholy in songs like the breathtaking and spacious 'Captured' and 'Say After Me' flow through to uplifting notes of hope in first single 'Winning Arrow' and 'If I Had You'.
Birds was the New Zealand Herald's 2005 album of the year, and was Bic's third #1 album chart entry in New Zealand, garnering platinum status in its first week. It went to double platinum by the end of its
second week, and has been certified triple platinum thus far.
RIANZ ranked Birds as 20th in the New Zealand Top 50 Albums of 2005 even though it has only charted for five weeks—from its release until the end of the year.
Birds entered the Australian charts at position 26 on the week ending March 13, 2006. It peaked at #20 on the Dutch Charts.
