Birdman vertelt het verhaal van acteur Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton). Ooit
wereldberoemd door zijn rol als een iconische superheld, nu worstelt hij met een toneelstuk
op Broadway. In de aanloop naar de première gaat hij de strijd aan met zijn ego en probeert
hij zijn familie, zijn carrière en zichzelf weer op de rails te krijgen.
