Plot :

Megan Turner (Curtis) is a rookie New York City policewoman who shoots and kills a suspect (Tom Sizemore) with her police-issue .38 Special Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolver while he's holding up a neighborhood market. The suspect's .44 Magnum Smith & Wesson Model 29 revolver lands on the floor of the market in the shopping area as the suspect is blown backward through the front window.
As she continues to the checkout area, Turner nearly steps on the suspect's gun directly in front of Eugene Hunt (Silver), a commodities trader, who is also a latent psychopath. Hunt takes the gun and slips away, using it to commit several bloody and brutal murders over the next few days. Because the robber's weapon was not found at the scene, Turner is accused of killing an unarmed man.
While the officer attempts to clear her name with Chief Hoyt and her superiors, Hunt begins to romance the suspended Turner in a twisted love fetish. Turner arrests him but he is freed by his attorney, Mel Dawson. He begins to stalk Turner at her family home, an uncomfortable place where Turner remembers her mother being physically...

Trama :

L'agente Megan Turner, appena arruolatasi nel corpo di polizia di New York, sventa una rapina ad un supermercato uccidendo il rapinatore. Purtroppo per lei comincia un incubo, perché uno dei clienti del supermercato, Eugene Hunt, agente di cambio di Wall Street, che al momento della rapina sta facendo la spesa, crollato psicologicamente e divenuto pazzo a seguito della sparatoria, all'insaputa di Megan, ruba la .44 Magnum del rapinatore, facendo in modo che Megan venga così accusata di eccesso di legittima difesa e, di conseguenza, sospesa già al primo giorno di lavoro. Eugene intanto si ossessiona al pensiero di Megan, che vede come una "luce" divina per guarire da questa sua pazzia, comincia a corteggiarla e, nel frattempo, di notte, comincia ad uccidere gente inerme a colpi di pistola, ma lasciando i bossoli col nome di Megan inciso sopra. Il detective Nick Mann, che segue il caso, preme affinché Megan sia reintegrata come detective della squadra Omicidi, in maniera da poterlo aiutare nella risoluzione del caso. L'uomo ha infatti intuito che l'assassino conosce Megan. Intanto, durante uno dei loro incontri, Eugene chiede a Megan di tenere la pistola in mano e di puntargliela addosso, e nel frattempo le fa capire di essere stato...
