Borknagar – 2006 - Origin [VBR HQ] (Promo) Out date: 30 Oct 2006Genre: Progressive RockCountry: NorwayWeb: http://www.borknagar.com/ A big progression on this cd from last one. Known morefor there Black Metal/Death Metal music, this will throw most Borknager for aloop than any fan could expect:) A band consistently inconsistent, Norway’sBorknagar have created an acoustic based album that is heavily folk-influencedand classically inspired. Main songwriter Øystein G. Brun has always startedwriting the band’s music acoustically, and by remaining acoustic the albumretains an organic feeling. From the opening woodwinds and melodic stringarrangements, to the multi-layered vocal harmonies the album is burgeoning withideas. Readingmore like naturalist poetry or philosophy, Øystein and Vintersorg take turnslyrically describing the universe and our place in it in an erudite andeloquent fashion. The album addresses the universe and its founding, man andhis beginnings, and nature and our unnatural actions that keep us locked in aninternal struggle. Constantly redefining itself, BORKNAGAR mainman/guitaristØystein G. Brun has broken ground with every release since their self-titledfirst release 1996. Black metal’s royalty have handled vocal duties in thepast. Beginning with Garm (Arcturus, Ulver), and then passing to Simen Hstnæsaka ICS Vortex (Dimmu Borgir), the mantle passed in 2001 to vocalist Vintersorg(Vintersorg, Fission) whose gifted use of melodic and harmonic experimentation, coupled with a multitude of vocal styles set the tone for Origin’s soniccacophony. Drummer Asgeir Mickelson (Spiral Architect, Testament) heightens theflowing rhythmic river with his artistic accentuated timekeeping. Returning iskeyboardist Lars A. Nedland (Solefald, Age Of Silence) who provides a myriad ofatmospheric soundscapes and harmonic interludes, as well as bassist Tyr(Emperor, Satyricon) who sat out 2004’s Epic. Successfully creating aconcentrated yet clear sound at Norway’s Toproom Studios (Tristania, Extol) ontheir last three albums, the band returned to record guitars with Co-producerBørge Finsted (Mayhem, Arcturus). Utilizing several recording studios the bandcaptured vocals, violin, cello, drums and percussion at Multimono, bass at Lowand Below Sutdio, and bamboo flute and recorders at Musikk & Mystikk.Several guest musicians appear including Norwegian musical icon Steinar Ofsdalplaying woodwinds.
