In Le Pacte des Loups wordt de wetenschapper Grégoire de Fronsac door Lodewijk XV naar de Franse
landstreek Gévaudan gestuurd. Het is 1766 en dappere jagers proberen al 2 jaar zonder succes een
monster te vangen. De Fronsac wordt eigenlijk naar de Gévaudan gestuurd zodat hij het monster op
kan zetten zodra het gevangen is, maar hij besluit ook zelf jacht te maken op dit mysterieuze beest.
Tijdens zijn zoektocht wordt hij bijgestaan door zijn bloedbroeder Mani en de jonge aristocraat
Thomas D'Apcher. De Fronsac komt er achter dat er in de Gévaudan meer aan de hand is dan hij het
eerste gezicht had vermoed.

In 18th century France, the Chevalier de Fronsac and his native American friend Mani are sent by the
King to the Gevaudan province to investigate the killings of hundreds by a mysterious beast.
