Admittedly I performed most of my quality assessment by checking Space scenes for blocks or other artifacts, and by comparing the sparkling clarity of Colonel Deering's eyes & lip gloss.

I re-encoded several times until I found the right settings to maintain black levels & starfield/smoke/flame detail, and to eliminate some framerate shudder visible during action scenes on the DVD source.

Result:

37 episodes, 32 files, 13.9gb total

Approximately 390mb per episode, largest file is 779mb

Playback runs smooth on HTC Evo Shift, Samsung Galaxy S3, Raspberry Pi with Occidentalis, & VLC (1.2Ghz, 128mb GPU)

English audio

What could I have done to get the quality over an 8 for you?
Audio: There is no surround sound source for this show.
This is the original DVD audio track, I did not alter or reencode it in any way.
Video: It's ripped from DVD9. Buck Rogers has not been released on BluRay.
If there's a higher quality rip out there I haven't seen it (even the 15gb AVI collections are severely reduced image quality compared to this one).

A very nice rip and a fun series to watch. Thanks, you saved me the effort of doing exactly what you did, I had the dvd in my queue for the longest time but had no time to re-encode it.

It is to bad that the studio only released the theatrical version of the pilot in the pan-and-scan TV ratio instead of the actual 1.85:1 aspect ratio in which it was released theatrically and made 21 million before being broadcast as the pilot on TV.
