Description
Arik Einshtein, Moni Moshunov, Tzvi Shisel. Israel, 2002.
This comedy was created in 2002 when the cable TV just entered Israel. Before that there was only one government TV channel plus some good to medium reception quality channels from Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Cyprus for those who were lucky to have good antennas and live in the reception areas. The main protagonist, Avraham, is played by Arik Einshtein, the popular Israeli singer. Although he has no relation to THAT Einshtein, nevertheless, he was very popular during the 60, 70s and 80s and still now remains one of the most beloved Israeli artists. Avraham is a taxi driver and is hurrying to work. While he's about to leave, the technician from the cable company just finished installing the cable TV connection. He explains to Avraham how to operate the new 'toy'. Avraham is impatient, he wants to leave... that is until the technician switches to the German "soft porn" channel. Avraham is in shock. "Disgusting," he said, but settles on the coach, forgets about the work and starts flipping channels. He impersonates anchors and characters in many "stations" - a Turkish news anchor, a Moslem preacher, Hungarian cowboy gunslinger, Italian-American gangster, Japanese officer, etc. In many of these cases the "languages" that he speaks are not real, but rather imitations based on the mixture of Hebrew slang, Arabic, Hungarian, etc. Thus, instead of the Japanese he uses the brand names of Japanese cars. Between the "channels" there some nice clips of songs performed by Arik Einshtein and other Israeli artists. This is the first time that this comedy was released with English subtitles, so even those who are not familiar with Hebrew might enjoy this cute flick. Sharing Widget |
